Spend the morning in Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood, the wind-tower architecture that predates the oil era entirely. Cross the Creek by abra water taxi — 1 AED, genuinely one of the best-value experiences in the entire city. Walk through the Gold Souk and Spice Souk in Deira. In the afternoon, visit the Dubai Museum at Al Fahidi Fort for real context on what this city looked like before 1970.
DAY 2: MODERN DUBAI
Catch the Burj Khalifa observation deck at sunset — book At the Top in advance, since the price gap between the cheapest slot and the sunset slot is real, and sunset is worth the difference. Visit Dubai Mall and catch the Dubai Fountain show at 6pm and 8pm. Walk Downtown in the evening, once the light’s off the buildings.
DAY 3: DESERT
Take an afternoon desert safari departing around 3pm — dune bashing by 4×4, a camel ride, sandboarding, Bedouin camp dinner with a falconry demonstration. Heavily touristic, sure, but executed well. The Milky Way from the dunes after dark, away from the city’s light pollution, ends up being the part most visitors mention afterward.
ONE THING WORTH KNOWING: the Dubai Metro covers most tourist areas efficiently and cheaply. A Nol card loaded with credit is the practical solution and saves you the per-trip taxi pricing decision for short hops.
