NOVEMBER TO MARCH IS WHY THE CITY BUILT ITSELF THIS WAY

Dubai’s entire tourism infrastructure was deliberately designed around this five-month stretch, when outdoor life becomes genuinely pleasant. Expect 20 to 30 degrees, low humidity, long days perfect for the desert safari, the beach, the outdoor souks, the waterfront walks that define the whole Dubai experience. December is peak season, and the city runs at maximum energy — the Dubai Shopping Festival, New Year’s Eve visible from the Burj Khalifa, outdoor events across Expo City and Bluewaters Island.

APRIL AND OCTOBER OFFER A REASONABLE TRADE-OFF

Warm rather than hot — mid-30s, humidity still manageable. Prices drop noticeably from the November-to-March peak, and the city feels less crowded. Cultural sites and indoor attractions — a Louvre Abu Dhabi day trip, the Mall of the Emirates, the Al Fahidi museums — work well year-round, making this a sensible window if you’d rather prioritise culture over guaranteed outdoor comfort.

MAY TO SEPTEMBER IS STILL OPERATIONAL, JUST EXTREME

Dubai doesn’t shut down in summer — retail, food and business all keep running at full pace — but outdoor sightseeing becomes genuinely uncomfortable, and potentially dangerous if you push it too far. Temperatures regularly hit 42 to 48 degrees, with humidity that makes it feel even worse. The Midday Break Law bars outdoor workers from working between 12:30pm and 3pm from June 15 to September 15. For visitors, plan on moving between air-conditioned spaces if you’re here during this window.

FESTIVALS AND EVENTS

Dubai Shopping Festival (January to February, dates vary): the city’s flagship retail event, running four to five weeks with promotions across thousands of shops, evening fireworks and entertainment. The Global Village — an outdoor pavilion complex with food and products from 90+ countries — runs November through April and is a particular highlight during this period. Dubai Food Festival (February to March): a citywide celebration of Dubai’s restaurant scene with special menus, food markets and beach events — a genuine reflection of how seriously this city takes food at every price point. Dubai World Cup (March, Meydan Racecourse): the world’s richest horse race, held at Meydan in late March, with the race and its black-tie events a fixture on the international racing calendar. Ramadan (dates vary annually): a distinctive atmosphere settles over the city — reduced daytime business hours, a quieter daytime feel, then a genuinely lively nighttime culture once iftar arrives. The lights installations and communal iftar tents set up around the city are worth experiencing if your visit happens to overlap.
