ItinerariesDAY 1: FIRA AND THE CALDERA WALK
Spend the morning exploring Fira, the island’s capital, including a ride down the cable car or the traditional donkey path to the old port for a different angle on the caldera cliffs. In the afternoon, walk the caldera-edge path toward Imerovigli — one of the more scenic, and notably less crowded, stretches of the island’s signature clifftop walking.
DAY 2: AKROTIRI AND THE SOUTH
Visit the Akrotiri archaeological site in the morning — the Bronze Age settlement preserved under volcanic ash, giving you real historical depth beyond the island’s purely scenic reputation. In the afternoon, head to Red Beach or one of the other distinctive volcanic sand beaches along the southern coast.
DAY 3: OIA AND SUNSET
Explore Oia at a relaxed pace through the day, including its blue-domed churches and narrow lanes, but secure your sunset spot well before the actual event — the famous viewing points fill up considerably during peak season, and arriving an hour early is genuinely sound advice, not excessive caution.
ONE THING WORTH KNOWING: a rented ATV, scooter or small car is the most practical way to move between the island’s towns — public bus service runs but on a more limited schedule than independent transport allows.
