March to May is the best time — warm (20 to 30 degrees), orange trees blossoming. Semana Santa features nightly processions of enormous religious floats — one of the most extraordinary spectacles in Europe. Two weeks later, Feria de Abril: a week-long party of flamenco, horses and sherry.

September and October — temperatures drop to 25 to 32 degrees. Early October is particularly appealing: warm enough for outdoor dining, cool enough for comfortable sightseeing.

Summer (June to August) is brutal. Regularly the hottest city in Europe — over 40 degrees for days at a time. Adopt the local pattern: mornings, retreat indoors in the afternoon, emerge after 8:00 PM.

Winter (November to February) is mild and pleasant — 10 to 18 degrees, occasionally rainy. January and February offer the best prices.
