Seville is the city that invented the version of Spain most people carry in their heads — flamenco, tapas, orange trees, whitewashed courtyards. The Real Alcazar is a Moorish palace complex so beautiful that Game of Thrones used it. The Cathedral is the largest Gothic church in the world. The Plaza de Espana, built for the 1929 exhibition, is absurdly photogenic.
nn
But the best parts of Seville are the neighbourhoods. Triana, across the river, is the historic home of flamenco and ceramics. Santa Cruz, the former Jewish quarter, is a maze of narrow streets where jasmine and bougainvillea climb the walls. The tapas culture is genuinely social: stand at the bar, order small plates, move on, repeat.
nn
The city is compact and walkable. Trains connect to Madrid (2.5 hours by AVE), Cordoba (45 minutes) and Malaga (2 hours). Two to three days covers the highlights. Summer regularly exceeds 40 degrees — spring and autumn are far more comfortable.
